Recently, to enrich my knowledge, I was engaged in a computer engineering project, which was to create a music box named Fabula that can interpret “moods” of music and generate corresponding lights. The idea originated from my Christmas orchestra concert, which could have been more remarkable with visual effects. Although the process involved complicated Math theories such as Fast Fourier Transformation, after several days of continuous computer coding, designing with the help of engineers and self-studying, I finally produced a prototype that fulfilled the request. I wish its presence in the real-time light-and-melody interaction in the future. The following is a video that demonstrates this project with more visuals.

https://phet.colorado.edu/ Do you remember the nights when you tore the Chemistry homework sheets up and wondered how on earth could someone understand the strange movements of those tiny atoms? Do you remember the physic classes for which you had to draw tons of diagrams just to find out the acceleration? Thanks to University of Colorado Boulder, the students who struggle with Math and science classes can now learn in a more visual way with the aids of PhET Simulation. The wide range of PhET Simulation fulfills lots of students' needs. It is divided into different sections such as levels(elementary school, middle school, high school) and subjects (Chemistry, Math, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science). If you are a Chemistry student who cannot understand the topic of atomic interactions, you can simply go to the Chemistry section and click on the "Atomic Interaction." The PhET Simulation is pretty easy to use. There are not many buttons in each program. With the instructions, a student can easily figure out what to do. Thanks to the concise and simple design of the programs, even a student without computer science knowledge can play with them.
PhET helps visualize abstract concepts. In addition to teachers' notes and explanations in class, PhET consolidates a certain topic by simplifying the concepts. For example, students who have troubles with micro atoms can see the atoms and their interactions directly in the macro scope in the simulation, therefore better understanding the concept. Besides the basic advantage of PhET, it is a website frequently being updated. Teachers and professors continuously add new programs to PhET, thus broadening the coverage of topics. If you are a science teacher whose students are having trouble understanding a complicated concept, you can send them here to PhET. (besides extra help, though)And maybe the next day you will find them obsessed with the simulations and explore the Science world on their own. Well, since there are so many platforms out there for bloggers to use, why would one choose Weebly? The first thing that I like about Weebly is its "drag-and-add" feature. With a function bar on the left side of your screen, you can easily drag an "element" such as "Title","Text","Button" or "Image" to fulfill your needs. Here bloggers can find all those basic yet useful functions. Moreover, the customization potential of Weebly has dramatically improved in the latest years. Recently, with the publication of Weebly ver 4.0, bloggers can customize their websites more easily. For instance, one can change the colors and fonts of the header more easily. One can even make a .gif as the background image for the header (if you become a prime user). As Weebly builders realize that customers are seeking in website platforms for more than functions, they gradually add artistic elements into Weebly. That is a great news for all the artsy bloggers!
The price of Weebly is all right. With $8 a month ($20 more if you want a free domain), one can have all the premium functions such as adding HD videos and removing ads. The bad news is, however, if you are a pro in writing codes and want more powerful functions and designs, in lieu of Weebly, squarespace and Typecho may be better choices. But if you are simply a beginner, Weebly is definitely a great place to start with. To learn more about Weebly, check this out! Introduction of Weebly ver 4.0 iMovie is a Mac application that allows users to make short films. It has various functions that fulfill most beginners' requests. This video does a pretty job in explaining the basic functions of iMovie. 1) How to start a movie (00:00 of the video) 2) How to import media/sources into iMovie (1:43) 3) How to add media to the timeline of the new film. (3:47) 4) How to edit the film (6:18) a) extract parts of the media and add them to the timeline b) split the clip c) detach the audio from the video d) crop the film/ use Key Burns 5) How to add animation or transition. (transition: 7:42) (animation: 19:10) 6) How to add texts. (10:35) 6) How to export the film into a .mp4 or .flv document. (40:20) Yesterday when I was making copies on the printer, my friend suddenly came to me and asked me if I knew how to use the scanner function. "Scanner?" I stood there for a minute and didn't know what to say. I became more shocked when we found the keyboard on the side of the copier.
Since then, I have explored some functions of the copier. There are several facts that you probably don't know. Fact #1: there is a keyboard on the side of the copier. Fact #2: if you click on “email” button, you will be able to scan your papers and send it to you email. Fact #3: you can insert your USB, choose “HDD File Transfer”, “Select from USB Memory” and then choose the file you want to print out. Make sure you convert the types of the files to Word or PDF. Fact #4: (You probably know this one) You can choose either colorful or black&white before copying your papers. There are more advanced functions to be explored in this magical library copier. But first things first, make sure your computer is connected to the copier. |
